Top Restaurants in Marrakech: An Unforgettable Journey of Flavors

A journey through the top restaurants of Marrakech is a magnificent way to discover a pillar of its culture: gastronomy. While it is true that many of the dishes and pastries characterizing its cuisine are popular and relatively simple—readily available even at street stalls—it is equally true that they lend themselves to reinventions and adaptations within modern contemporary cuisine, where dining is not merely a basic necessity but a sophisticated experience in itself. You will discover this in the restaurants we have compiled below, which represent just a selection of the many available.

Moroccan gastronomy is also present, incidentally, in restaurants in other destinations of Mandala Tours, the group to which Chic Morocco belongs: if you explore exclusive corners of Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates, you will encounter restaurants that do hold the famous Michelin Star and base their menus on Moroccan dishes, such as Tanjiah in Riyadh.

Luxury Hotels, First-Class Restaurants

The so-called ‘red city’ is home to a significant share of Morocco’s top restaurants. In many cases, they are associated with luxury hotels, but their culinary delights are not reserved exclusively for guests. In this way, La Mamounia opens its doors to anyone wishing to enjoy an unparalleled experience at any of the establishments located on its premises: while L’italien and Le français base their cuisine on those countries, the aptly named Le Marocain is an explosion of Moroccan ingredients and dishes through a minimalist lens.

The offerings at the restaurants of the Royal Mansour—another of the city’s premier luxury hotels, overseen by chef Yannick Alleno—are also minimalist. There are several, and two of them enjoy recognition from The World’s 50 Best (in the Middle East & North Africa category). We refer to La Grande Table Marocaine and Sesamo: the former featuring the city’s most refined tagines, and the latter offering an interesting fusion with Italian cuisine.

With an Andalusian touch, La Cour des Lions stands out; it is part of the Es Saadi resort and, as its French name suggests, is inspired by the Court of the Lions at the Alhambra in Granada. However, this restaurant will captivate you not only with its refined atmosphere but also with a menu that reinvents Moroccan cuisine in a contemporary style, particularly its dessert menu, where the date is a true hallmark.

Other Offerings Throughout the City

Dar Moha also receives much praise, featuring typical Atlas dishes such as Taktouka and a wide variety of grilled dishes for lunch, while dinner offerings lean more toward the classic triad (tagine, couscous, and pastilla), accompanied by a broad selection of appetizers.

The variety of top restaurants in Marrakech is much broader and exceeds the length of this post, but we did not want to conclude the list without mentioning Le Foundouk, which is also a bar and offers the choice between a Moroccan and an international menu—the latter featuring Italian pasta, Turkish sweets, and much more.

While maintaining a highly local menu (including the famous Marrakech tangia), the atmosphere and presentation are key highlights of the Dar Zellij restaurant, featuring rooms elegantly decorated with tiles (as its name implies) as well as spaces that recreate Berber desert tents. Furthermore, the waitstaff expertly pours green tea with mint to ensure it is enjoyed at its perfect point of flavor and texture.

For all these reasons and much more, Marrakech is for many the perfect destination to discover the best of local gastronomy, adapted to new trends and the most refined palates.
